A fan is installed on most modern boilers to expel the products of combustion through the flue duct. Fresh air is drawn into the combustion chamber via the outer duct of the flue. In all boilers if the fan fails the boiler will not operate. An air pressure switch is used to monitor the functionality of the fan.
Newer boilers now have a small pcb mounted onto them to monitor operation and adjust fan speed.
